Layoff at Apple - Fitness+ Team Affected
TL;DR: We've been hearing from multiple sources that there's a second round of layoffs at Apple. This round is targeted at Apple Fitness+ Audio Team.
Apple is quietly trimming headcount once again, marking its second targeted round of layoffs in under two months.
The latest cuts focus on the audio production side of Apple Fitness+, specifically impacting the teams behind screen-free Apple Watch features like Time to Walk and Time to Run.
While the features will stay live, users can expect a noticeable slowdown in the release cadence for new episodes.
The move follows a larger restructuring that saw more than 200 roles eliminated across the Vision Pro organization, Siri development, and the company's Intelligent Systems Experience group.
Roughly 100 of those positions belonged to the spatial computing unit, where internal 3D video and gaming projects were scaled back to lean more heavily on third-party developers. Another 100 roles were cut within software engineering to accommodate a ground-up rebuild of Siri's machine learning architecture.
These headcount adjustments are not traditional corporate cost-cutting measures.
Apple recently posted $109.4 billion in quarterly revenue, up 16 percent year-over-year. Instead, Cupertino is actively reallocating internal capital, scaling back recurring production costs on niche media and hardware initiatives to funnel resources into infrastructure for Apple Intelligence, new Siri capabilities, and next-generation device platforms.
Impacted employees are receiving severance packages and transition assistance, with the option to apply for open roles within expanding software and hardware engineering teams.
